Design Book Review : Surreal Digital Photography

By Jennifer | May 4 2007 |

Surreal Photography - Photoshop BookSurreal Digital Photography by Barry Huggins and Ian Probert looks at how artistic digital photograph work can be produced using Photoshop. Obviously from the title, you can imagine that many of the projects in the book have a distinctly surreal slant. The idea here is to stop just enhancing reality and start subverting it.

The book breaks down into several sections including portraits, landscapes and studio photography and features practical projects that you can follow along with in Photoshop. If you’ve just been using the program to brighten photographs and clone out relatives, then welcome to a whole new world.

As well as the practical projects there are a number of “Showcase” sections showing you how other digital artists create their work. This book is probably not suitable for the complete novice, although the tutorials are clearly written and it has great photographs. However for anyone who wants to push their photoshop skills that little bit further and broaden the imagination, this is a good buy.
