I saw this news article and although it’s a serious story, I have to admit I burst out laughing when I saw the image. Cute little kitty….

Photoshop Tutorial : Create a silhouette

Posted by Jennifer Farley | November 19, 2007 | 10 Comments

In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to create a simple composition in Photoshop based on a silhouette created by firstly selecting an object and using a shortcut to fill with black. The image is completed by dragging the selection on to another image and duplicating and adding text. The video is just under 4 mins long (one of my longer efforts).

Photoshop News : Update for Photoshop CS3 available

Posted by Jennifer Farley | November 17, 2007 | 4 Comments

PSCS3 iconIf you’re the proud owner of a copy of Photoshop CS3, don’t forget to download a newly available update. The update deals with a few issues that were discovered after PS CS3 was realeased. You will probably have gotten a message automatically about this from the Adobe Updater but the patcher/updater is available for download from Adobe.com now.

The update brings the program to version 10.01 and improvements include;
increased speed of moving objects inside multiple layer sets;
converting images to CMYK using certain profiles no longer results in black files;
the Save for Web feature now includes an option to “Include XMP” (metadata) in the settings menu within the main Save for Web interface.

The update for Windows Photoshop CS3 can be found here.

The update for Macintosh Photoshop CS3 is here.

Photoshop Quick Tip : Rotate through images quickly

Posted by Jennifer Farley | November 15, 2007 | 3 Comments

Just a short quick tip today. If you have a pile of images open in Photoshop, a very quick way to cycle through them is to hit Ctrl + Tab. This will rotate through all the open images. Much quicker than choosing Window > Filename - and picking each file out one at a time.

Photoshop Tutorial : Changing eye colour with the Colour Replacement tool

Posted by Jennifer Farley | November 13, 2007 | 9 Comments

The colour replacement tool is another one of the neglected tools in the Photoshop toolbox, which is a shame because it is incredibly powerful yet easy to use. It is not unlike the Healing Brush in that you paint with it like a normal paintbrush, but instead or overwriting the image with a solid colour, it changes the colour while holding onto the details and textures in the image.
It’s also easy to apply the colour replacement very precisely because you use it like a paintbrush.

In this video tutorial, I’m using the Colour Replacement tool to change a subject’s eyecolour from green to blue - while importantly keeping the realism.

Five Vector-Style Photoshop Brushes

Posted by Jennifer Farley | November 12, 2007 | 3 Comments

I’ve been doing a bit of a spring-clean/cull of files on my computer and I’m trying to organise my photoshop brushes into separate categories. Here’s five sets of brushes that I like that fit into the Vector-style category. They are a mixture of high res and lower resolution but I found that I have used these quite a bit in the past and that you might be interested in them too - there is a link to each creator’s site below. In no particular order;
