10 Dark Business Card Designs (+1 by me!)

By Jennifer Farley | Apr 3 2008 |

I’ve been doing some logo design work and a business card for a client and I generally offer two variations on a theme. In this case I put together a card on white paper – fairly traditional - and also a darker design – a very, very dark red. I was delighted the client took the bold move of choosing the darker card design. You can see the front of the card below, with the back underneath it.

Needless to say before I started work, I went searching for inspiration and in my travels, I came across some nice examples of dark coloured business cards. Here’s ten business card designs that I liked, with links to their creators websites.

Wow, those are beautiful and useful!

I really like the idea of putting the mission statement on the back of the business cards.

I also like the sideways writing, which is at a right angle to the rest of the information.

    Hi Jennifer,

I really really like the card you designed. Did you create the logo also? I love that “A” mark with the circle.

I just recently designed a dark business card also for a client, have a look

    Thanks Adam.

Hi Brian, yes, I did the logo too - it’s very simple (simple is my mantra!). I like your dark card too. They really stand out don’t they?

Hi Timo, thanks for visiting! You’ve got a super portfolio there.

    Great design Jennifer.

One thing though I always teach when speaking about business development and the specific things we need to include on our business cards if we want to ensure that our bsiness card is really effective marketing collateral to bring in more prospects and profits - be sure that one side is a light colour.

I see too many business cards - and usually from people in design, media and creative roles with dark business cards. Most commonly they use black - just as you have demonstrated in the examples here.

The reality is that many people write on the business cards they receive - even as a prompt about where they met the person.

Unless you are going to give our a white, silver or gold pen with every business card you hand out, don’t make both sides of the business card a dark colour.

    Hi Krishna

Thanks for the great tip. I’ve certainly scribbled down some info on business cards in the past.

In the case of my own design in the post, as you can see one side is white - I’ll pretend I did that for the reason you mentioned above!!!

Hi Jerry, thanks for visiting and for your kind words! To sum up briefly, it was created with a bit of sketching, lots of looking at business cards and logos, magazines, tv - anything to avoid real work ;) and then lashed the whole lot into Illustrator.
