The Northeast Nebraska Animal Shelter in Norfolk currently houses more than 50 casts and 30 dogs.

Established in 1892, the Norfolk SPCA is one of the oldest animal welfare organizations in the country. Originally founded because of concerns about the mistreatment of workhorses, the Norfolk SPCA now shelters, treats, rehabilitates and re-homes household companion animals throughout Hampton Roads to give them the extra time and care needed to find that forever home.
NORFOLK – Some Norfolk animal shelters are benefiting from students who might just be working for them someday.

The best thing that peta should do is open a shelter that accepts ALL animals from Suffolk, Portsmouth, Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Newport News, Hampton, Isle of Wight, and Chesapeake. They could show the nation how to properly operate an animal shelter, or is it just easier for them to tell everyone how (an old sports line: those who can do, those who cannot teach). The organization also provides medical and surgical services for animals cared for by the City of Norfolk’s open-admissions shelter. This fee-for-service income is the only public funding the Norfolk SPCA receives.Director of Development
The Norfolk SPCA, which operates a no-kill adoption center and affordable public veterinary clinic, seeks a Development Director to join our team. Responsibilities include oversight of all development line items, as well as coordination of board development committee, supervision of development/events coordinator, and management of special events, website, marketing, social media, receipting, and donor database (Raiser’s Edge). Will work closely with executive director on capital campaign and function as member of senior staff. Must be seasoned development professional experienced in all forms of fundraising and team player with excellent verbal/written communication skills. Other plusses: leadership background, ability to juggle multiple projects, love of animals or experience in animal sheltering/welfare. Occasional evenings/weekends due to events. Please send resume, cover letter, and three writing samples to .Like all other SPCAs in Hampton Roads and nationwide, the Norfolk SPCA is an independent organization that is not affiliated with the ASPCA based in New York City. The shelter does not receive funding from the national group except when it is selected by the ASPCA through a competitive grants process also open to other U.S. shelters, whether they are an SPCA or not. Interestingly, however, the first newspaper accounts of Norfolk SPCA meetings show that the organization’s founders were aware of and motivated by the ASPCA’s efforts in New York City.The City of Norfolk’s Animal Care and Adoption Center provides dog and cat adoptions and will help Pets for Patriots members find their new best friend. The shelter cares for nearly 6,000 animals each year and has a wide variety seeking permanent homes. In addition to pet adoption, the City is responsible for animal control, cruelty investigations and enforcement of all applicable animal codes.The Animal Shelter of Northeast Nebraska* started in the mid 90's in the Wayne area and has since been fostering animals in the Norfolk area - however we have placed animals throughout Nebraska.The Norfolk SPCA’s animal services team checks on the amount of space available in our shelter every day. When an appropriate space opens up, a staff member will contact you based on your order on our waiting list.
