Safe Haven Pet Rescue was incorporated in Minnesota in June of 1998. Since that time, Safe Haven has rescued and adopted out over 1000 cats and dogs. Safe Haven is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, so donations are tax-deductible as a charitable contribution.

Very few organizations provide comprehensive pet housing and adoption in Minnesota. While every community has an animal impound facility, they do not always have the resources to house animals for optimal physical and mental comfort, nor do they have the capability to meticulously screen potential adopters for animals with special needs. Hence, pet impound institutions rely on rescue partners for more thorough background checking and screening of applications to foster or adopt. Many metro-area pet rescue organizations provide first-rate animal rescue and adoption services but do not have a shelter to house the creature. Only the Animal Humane Society, with five metro area shelters, provides both comprehensive pet housing and adoption. It is likely the best in the Upper Midwest. Two other noteworthy organizations dedicated to the welfare of pets that have lost their homes are highlighted below.
