The Animal Control Officer is based at the Norwood Animal Shelter and is also considered the local Rabies Control Authority handling wild animals which have been reported sick or injured. The Animal Shelter is open for adoption and reclaiming of lost pets and the Animal Control officer is always available for emergencies by calling the Norwood Police. Information on animals available for adoption can also be found on the Animal Control portion of the Norwood website.Kalliel said her family formed the Friends of the Norwood Animal Shelter over the summer. To raise awareness about the shelter, the family created the video, “Norwood’s Animal Friends,” for Norwood Public Access Television.The Friends of the Norwood Animal Shelter want to find forever homes for dogs like Chad and Smokey, who currently reside at the Route 1 shelter.The group encourages residents to donate to the shelter located at 160 Boston-Providence Highway. The shelter is in need of additional blankets, towels, bedding, food and treats, and those items can be brought directly to the shelter. The shelter also accepts monetary donations. Checks can be sent to the “Betterment of the Shelter” fund. This money is typically used for medical supplies and treating the animals, Cerqueira said. Checks can be mailed to Norwood Town Hall, 566 Washington St.The video features directions to the Norwood Animal Shelter, an interview with Cerqueira and profiles of the cats and dogs currently available for adoption.The Friends of the Norwood Animal Shelter want to find forever homes for dogs like Chad and Smokey, who currently reside at the Route 1 shelter.The Friends of the Norwood Animal Shelter said “Norwood’s Animal Friends” would not have been possible without the support of NPA-TV. Richard said they took courses at NPA-TV over the summer, where they learned how to film, edit, work on camera and perform all the technical aspects involved with creating a public access television show.Kalliel said her family formed the Friends of the Norwood Animal Shelter over the summer.
