Decatur resident Mary Stacy loves her feline friends – so much so she found a way to include them in her professional life. Her cat, Jack Hollis, has appeared in numerous movies and television shows, including Atlantan Tyler Perry’s “Madea Goes to Jail. ”If it wasn’t for the DeKalb nonprofit Furkids, Stacy would not have found Jack, she said. Furkids, an animal rescue shelter, markets animals for adoption through retailers like Petsmart. The organization offers refuge for abandoned and homeless animals and provides low-cost options for spaying and neutering. . Orphan Annie Rescue has dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens for adoption. The Animal Services Division is managed by a non-profit organization whose programs strengthen the entire animal welfare community by promoting homeless pet adoption, providing affordable spay/neuter services, increasing public awareness, and advocating for lifesaving public policy. The animal services division provides humane care for the animals at the shelter, veterinary care including spay/neuters, pet adoptions, animal reclaims, volunteers, foster homes and rescue group coordination. Since taking over management of DeKalb County Animal Services (DCAS) and Fulton County Animal Services in 2013, thousands of lives have been saved and adoptions have been increased by 300% at DCAS alone. It was created in February 2009 by a group of people in the Atlanta area who wanted to do more to save the many adoptable dogs and cats who found themselves on death row in Georgia animal control facilities.
