In February of 2008 RPSM began a partnership with Lakeland and Florence Crane Correctional Facilities, initiated by Warden Carol Howes. RPSM provides vetted shelter and rescue dogs to the prison for training by skilled prisoners for placement in permanent adoptive homes. We began with six dogs and now have 14 dogs placed within the the prison. The dogs are trained for three months and emerge completely housebroken and obedience trained, ready for new homes. These dogs are a great choice for your family; they are completely vetted and spayed & neutered as well. Refurbished Pets of Southern Michigan is your Pet Placement Partner located in Branch County Michigan. We are extending ourselves into surrounding counties. Our purpose is to promote positive change within high kill animal shelters, while placing as many adoptable animals as possible from these shelters into adoptive homes, respectable agencies and rescue organizations.MHS strongly urges that all pet owners allow their animals to reside inside, especially during extreme weather. However, if people leave their pets outdoors for any length of time, they are required by Michigan state law to provide them with adequate food, water and shelter. Adequate shelter for dogs, as defined by state law, means a well-built, insulated, slant-roofed dog house. The interior should be just large enough for the dog to stand and to lie down comfortably. It should be slightly elevated from the ground for air circulation. The door should face away from prevailing winds and have a protective flap to eliminate drafts. As temperatures drop and the first snow begins to fall, the metro Detroit area is bracing for the arrival of another harsh Michigan winter. Among those who will suffer the worst this season are pets – dogs and cats left outside for long periods of time and forced to weather the biting winds and extreme cold. With the Michigan Humane Society’s (MHS) Cruelty Investigation Department already responding to a number of cold-weather related calls, pet owners across the area can use these simple tips to ensure that this winter is a safe and happy season for their pets. All pets must be on leashes or in carriers and up-to-date on vaccinations. The Michigan Humane Society reminds pet guardians to avoid any activities which may be uncomfortable, stressful or pose any risk to your pet. When deciding to bring your companion animal into a public environment, please be sure that he or she is properly socialized and able to interact with other animals. The Michigan Humane Society and PetSmart are hosting pet holiday pictures with Santa at six area PetSmart locations - in Dearborn, Chesterfield, Rochester Hills, Roseville, Taylor and West Bloomfield - throughout December. The mission of Refurbished Pets of Southern Michigan is to assist abandoned, homeless or unwanted animals by placing them in qualified, suitable, and approved foster or permanent homes; to rescue abandoned, homeless or unwanted animals by removing them through legal means from unsuitable environments or shelters.
