Traveling with animals on southwest airlines

Assuming that you have made arrangements for your pet's drop off and pick up, in almost all instances, you will need to move your pet using an airline, and your pet will be sent as air cargo. Virtually all airlines accept pets in cargo except for Southwest Airlines, JetBlue and the smaller commuter airlines that do not have facilities for them. to check rules and regulations for traveling with a pet on the airline you are considering.
Under no circumstances will we accept pets in the cargo bin. Southwest only accepts cats and dogs in-cabin.

While Southwest Airlines does not transport pets via our air cargo service, we do accept small vaccinated domestic cats and dogs when traveling with a Passenger in the cabin. Learn more about Southwest Airlines . Many people like to take their pets with them when they travel, even by air. You can either with you, provided your pet can easily fit under the airline seat, or they travel in the cargo area. Choosing a Southwest Airlines pet carrier is important, as your pet has to be comfortable as well as safe.Like many airlines, Southwest accepts pets along with their humans. But while most airlines allow pets to fly as cargo, and some allow you to check pets as baggage, Southwest does not. Pets must ride in the cabin – only dogs and cats and only on domestic routes. Pets may not travel in-cabin on any Southwest Airlines international flight, even if that’s only part of your itinerary. Southwest will accept small cats and dogs for in-cabin travel only. Reservations can only be booked by calling their Customer Service line ahead of time. They will not accept pets in the cargo hold under any circumstances. Those passengers travelling with pets in-cabin are only allowed one carrier per ticketed passenger. A pet carrier will count as either a carry-on item or a personal item. Approved carriers are available online or at any ticket counter for a fee of $48 (taxes included). Southwest airlines do not allow pets in their cargo hold. You may only take very small dogs or cats with you. They will not allow any other animals. Your pet must be calm and not make a fuss during the flight. You may want to bring one of their favorite toys or blankets, or treats with you.
